Silvia Santos, representing the Fundación Laboral de la Construcción, highlighted initiatives to attract young talent to the sector during the Construction Training Forum held on November 5, 2024.

As part of the International Construction Week, which is part of the annual Construtec fair held from November 5 to 8, 2024, the ‘Pact4Youth’ project focused on attracting young talent to the construction sector was presented. This presentation, organized during the Construction Training Forum on the first day of the event, brought together experts and key industry players to address one of the industry’s major challenges: incorporating new generations.

The project was presented by Silvia Santos, International Projects Technician at Fundación Laboral de la Construcción. During her presentation, Santos highlighted the efforts made to make the sector more attractive to young people, showcasing key activities and results achieved to date.

Among the highlights, attendees learned about the creation of a Roadmap and Action Plan designed to improve youth employability in construction. This work was carried out thanks to the collaboration of high-level public-private working groups, comprising vocational training providers, higher education institutions, industry representatives, trade unions, and social entities.

During the event, various activities and resources aimed at different stakeholders were presented:

  • Companies (especially SMEs): masterclasses on innovation and a toolkit to promote apprenticeships.
  • Young people: practical workshops and social media campaigns to attract their interest in construction.
  • Counselors and trainers: resources designed to enhance professional support and guidance.
  • Other key stakeholders: specific strategies to ensure relevant and sustainable impact.

The presentation made it clear that the construction sector is taking concrete steps to modernize and connect with new generations, focusing on training, innovation, and collaboration as fundamental pillars.
