During the months of October and November, a series of events have been held in Cyprus aimed at attracting and engaging young people to the construction industry in the framework of the Erasmus+ project ‘Pact4Youth’. These meetings, organised by the ‘O Oikodomos’ KEPO Educational Centre, brought together students, future professionals and companies in the sector,…

The first event was held on 16 October, followed by a second on 23 October, a third on 2 November, a fourth on 9 November, and the last on 16 November. Each of these meetings started with a welcome speech by the Director of the Educational Centre ‘O Oikodomos’, who highlighted the importance of attracting new generations to the construction sector and of initiatives such as ‘Pact4Youth’.

The information sessions covered a range of essential issues for those wishing to join the construction industry. Among the points covered, participants learned about the current state of the construction labour market, the challenges facing the workforce, and the employment trends shaping the future of the industry.

In addition, a showcase of the most advanced tools and technologies that are revolutionising the sector was presented. Attendees had the opportunity to learn about Building Information Modelling (BIM), which is a project management software and advanced surveying equipment that optimises construction processes and improves project accuracy.

One of the highlights of the events was the practical demonstration of on-site testing to ensure Health and Safety on projects using concrete, where young people were able to experience first-hand how essential tests are carried out in construction.

In each of the meetings, the importance of maintaining a safe working environment was highlighted, emphasising Health and Safety measures on construction sites. The organisers put special focus on the fact that new professionals must be prepared not only in technical skills, but also in risk management and the adoption of practices that protect both workers and projects in general.

The events have been an important step in bringing young people closer to the world of construction. A sector that remains key to the economic and social development of Cyprus. Through these activities, it is expected to strengthen the link between education and industry, opening up new professional opportunities for future generations.
