Pedmede introduces the opportunities of the construction sector to young people in Greece

·

The Greek Construction Fair: ‘BuildExpo Fair Greece’, which took place between 17-20 October in Athens, hosted five masterclasses for young people. These masterclasses, organised by Pedmede, took place within the framework of the ‘Pact4Youth’ project, co- funded by the European Union’s Erasmus+ programme, which aims to attract young people to the construction sector.

The construction sector faces the challenge of addressing the problem of generational replacement and workforce shortages. Therefore, in the framework of the ‘Pact4Youth’ project, Pedmede organised a conference in Athens (Greece) to bring the construction sector closer to young people and to show them the opportunities offered by the construction industry.

Some of the masterclasses took the format of an open day and those attending were able to see first-hand the day-to-day work carried out by professionals in the construction sector.

On the other hand, one of the main topics covered in these master classes were trends and employment opportunities in the sector. The latest developments in sustainable construction, technological innovation and occupational health and safety were also presented.

As the masterclasses took place during the week in which the ‘Erasmus Days’ were scheduled, one of these five masterclasses focused on the importance of European projects such as ‘Pact4Youth’ to promote professional development and innovation in the construction sector, and highlighted the work being carried out through this initiative.

The activities carried out by Pedmede through ‘Pact4Youth’ aimed to inform young people about the different job options that exist within the construction sector, highlighting the trades that are currently growing and most in demand, which are related to innovation and sustainability.
